COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE

The final goal to reach in the communicative approach is to make students competent comunicatively, and what does it mean?, many teachers don't understant much this term, and how you will acomplish something that you don't understand.

The term COMPETENT is a word that came with globalization , and has to do with how much people need to sharp their skills in a specif area, for example: which teacher is more competent? , the one who has more skills when teaching an specific area. That is what enterprises are looking for:"skilled people".
Concerning to languages and communicative approach, you are communicatively competent when your skills in the language(listening, speaking, reading and writing) are sharped to work out in communicative activities. nowadays, The curriculum gives us expected outcomes to work in our students which include specific capacities, a bunch of specific capacities are going to improve a specific skill. it sounds confusing, but that's the way it works.

The biggest problem that we face is the few hours that we have in classrooms weekly. besides other contextual and metodological problems. anyways, as I mentioned before, we are called to be involved in this approach.

COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH

i have many things to say about the communicative approach, but i want to start by expressing that we need to understand first what an approach is, in simple words, an approach is a set of principles that are going to affect your methodology(performance/activities) as a teacher.
All teachers have an approach conciuosly or unconciuosly, principles that we follow in our practice in classroom, when we plan and perform the class.
Nowadays, we (language teachers) are called to be involved in the communicative approach, so we have to star from the theory which is going to lead our practice.
i will be giving more about this approach in coming posts, but if you need some help, make your comment and ask there, i will be asnwering as soon as possible.

The Practice of English Language Teaching

ANOTHER INTERESTING BOOK THAT I RECOMMEND; IF YOU ARE AN ENGLISH TEACHER YOU MUST HAVE THIS BOOK, IT HAS ALL THE TOPICS THAT YOU CAN REQUEST.

I have to say, that this book was the first book that i read refering to approaches and methods in a second language acquisition. i suggest this book, if you are interested in methods and techniques, but i have to expres that the methods are not very updated.

-------------------------------------------

GOALS OF THIS BOOK

One of the goals of t his book is for you to learn about many different language Teaching methods. I will use the term 'language teaching method' to mean a coherent set of links between actions and thoughts in language Teaching. The actions are the techniques and the thoughts are the principles in the title of this book: Techniques and Principles in Language Teaching.

A second goal is to help you uncover t he thoughts that guide your own actions as a teacher. They may not be ones of which you are aware. Seeking to determine which principles of the methods you read about here are most (dis)harmonious with your own thinking will help you to uncover some of your implicit thoughts and beliefs about reaching. A third goal is to introduce you to a variety of techniques, some of which will be new. Although certain techniques may require further training, others can be immediately implemented. Feel free to experiment and adapt those techniques to your teaching context.
